Hemp for Healthier Land (H4HL) transforms overrun grazing land by replacing invasive weeds like rats tail grass with nutrient-rich industrial hemp. Our sustainable, no-cost system restores pastures, boosts grazing capacity, and improves soil health—all while offering landowners a share of profits from hemp production.
Rat’s tail grass is a highly invasive weed that chokes out productive pasture across Queensland, reducing grazing capacity and land value. Its tough, unpalatable leaves make it inedible for livestock, leading to overgrazing of desirable grasses and further land degradation. The weed spreads rapidly, outcompeting native species and making paddocks nearly impossible to restore without intervention.
Hemp is the perfect ally against rat’s tail grass, growing fast and forming a dense canopy that blocks out weeds. Its deep roots break up compacted soil, improving water retention and restoring pasture health. As it grows, hemp naturally enriches the soil, creating the perfect conditions for productive grazing once the rotation is complete.
We'll establish a rotational hemp cultivation system across five 10-hectare plots (50 hectares total), using industrial hemp to suppress weeds and restore soil health. This approach enhances soil structure, boosts grazing capacity, and supports sustainable land management.
